Regenerative Labs and Exhibits

Worm World

Vermicomposting (composting with worms) is a super-powered form of food waste diversion that enhances soil quality, bolsters nutritional content, and mitigates environmental impact. Worm World is a space to explore vermicomposting techniques, impacts, and spark the inspiration to take the next step.

To expand the impact of Worm World we need interested community members like you to pursue these amazing interests with us! Join us and work on behalf of your community.

There are 2 main ways to stay engaged:

  • Email List: We’ll keep you posted on what’s going on.

  • Guild: A little more hands on, a lot like a club!

Our Program

At REAP, Worm World foregrounds vermicomposting as a positive business case for investments in nature, while providing a fun and playful space that offers lessons in sustainable nutrition, cultivates interest in further training and education, and presents pathways to internships, apprenticeships, and job placement. Ultimately, REAP will train the next generation of vermicompost experts.

In the World

From backyard worm towers to industrial scale production, the Vermicompost world is a-wriggle with excitement. Worms consume organic matter and recycle it into readily available nutrients. As they tunnel, eat, and poop, their movement also aerates soil.

The worldwide vermicompost industry is growing rapidly. In order to keep up with demand for healthy, effective soil amendments and the availability of compostable materials, we need vermicompost pros, and we need them now!

Career Pathways

The vermicompost market is mostly focused on the production and distribution of worm castings, and accordingly there are many opportunities for certified experts to find work. However, as the industry continues to grow, adjacent fields such as equipment manufacturing, distribution, and more will require experts, too. In conjunction with programs at REAP like the Fabrication Lab, Worm World has huge potential to prepare individuals for careers in vermicompost.

Current Status

To get our programs up and running there are a few things that need to be established! Below are some of the key elements and where we stand in terms of getting things up and running.

It’s impassioned community members, volunteers, and funders who help us push the dial and get closer to our goals!

  • Program Vision

  • Industry Sector Analysis

  • Employers, Trade Organizations, and Unions

  • Research

  • Curriculum and Class Resources

  • On Campus Resources and Facilities

  • Job Placement Resources

  • Funding

    Status Updates Coming Soon!

REAP currently farms worms in three different worm farms as well as having worms in our compost and soil throughout the entire campus.

Two of these farms are internally managed by REAP, generating an estimated 10 pounds of worm castings a week while one of our worm farms is open to our community members allowing them to dispose of their waste and get their hands dirty managing worms.
