Fungi Hut

Fungus may be the future heroes of our climate crisis due to their ability to provide delicious high quality nutrients to humans, break down hydrocarbons, and reclaim contaminated land. We need more fungus amongus and it all starts in the Fungi Hut!

Fungi, are unsung heroes of the environment! They are pivotal in nutrient cycling, soil health, and ecological balance. They are key players in the Wood Wide Web, which is fundamental to the health of our planet. The trees and plants connect to one another through a complex underground web of roots, and mycelium expands those links! This lets the mycelium transfers water, nitrogen, carbon, and other minerals through the Wood Wide Web is a symbiotic relationship that suits both mushrooms and plants quite well.

The other key role of mushrooms is as a decomposer! Fungi allows dead trees and squished plants to be broken down so new life can be supported. It is this role that makes it so exciting when we talk about breaking down plastics or reclaiming areas contaminated with heavy metals! Mushrooms can bond with those inorganic materials and make them safe and decomposable!

Our Fungi Hut focuses on mushrooms as the healers of land and an anchor point for communities to grow food and foster nutrient-heavy products. We are eager to educate, cultivate and remediate through the ecological power of fungi.

Where We Are Now

We are beginning to create a permanent space for our Fungi Hut. Thanks to mushroom brick donations from the Fungi Farm, we have cultivated the beginning of our base for our fungi (see left). We welcome contribution and collaboration from community volunteers, donors, and potential partners. To learn more about how to contribute, check out our Get Involved tab and our Partners page.
